Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?
What the heck do books, brains and beauty have to do with each other? (Other than the obvious alliteration.)
Well, I am a writer and I have been for many years. I published my first novel, Where the Pink Houses Are, in 2011 when I was a stay-at-home-mom with four kids. And in addition to writing, I read voraciously and listen to podcasts daily, so I’m always up for giving out a great book or podcast recommendation. Not to mention for years my website has been called “rebekah ruth books”. Thus the Books part. In the books section I’ll be recommending great books and podcasts and tagging them by category so you can find something for whatever topic you want.
On to Brains…this is where I become a nerd and geek out over personality profiles like Disc, Enneagram, StrengthsFinder and Meyers Briggs (MTBI)**. If you want to talk about how these things can help you be the best version of yourself, I’m all in! Sometimes confidence can come from just realizing we aren’t the only ones wired in a certain way. And I promise, you’re not. That’s not to say you aren't unique. Of course you are. But there are also repeatable patters to be found in behavior and personality that help us to understand ourselves and our friends and family in a way we never have before. So I’ll be writing quite a bit about personality. “Brains” also includes mental health, a subject I’m extremely passionate and curious about. I’m tired of the stigma associated with mental health issues and I’m on a mission to normalize open discussions of the things that affect the majority of us on the daily. The things that shame hides in the dark corners need to be brought into the light so we can see how we are truly not alone.
And then there’s Beauty. I LOVE makeovers. I like home makeovers, hair makeovers, wardrobe makeovers, but most of all I love makeup makeovers. (Yes, I know that sounds weird but how else would you say it?) I started working in the beauty industry when I was 20 years old and though I ended up becoming a stay-at-home mom for almost 20 years, I never stopped loving the confidence giving power of a good makeover. So I recently stepped back into the beauty world as an independent artist with Maskcara Beauty and I LOVE it! Makeovers for dayyyyyyys.
For a while, I felt like I had to make a choice. I either had to focus on writing books and blogs, going back to school to get my psychology degree, or growing my Maskcara Beauty business. But then I heard one of my favorite business coaches, Nicole Walters, say that we can be “multi-passionate.” And that resonated. I realized that all the things I’m interested in have a common thread. They are all avenues to empower women be their best selves. And I am so into that. People have been telling me for years I should become a life coach. So this is my way of unofficially testing those waters. I believe that each of us has a story to tell and I want to help women confidently tell their best story with their their “one wild and precious life.”
By day, I am an associate real estate broker. And I love working that business with my husband. But my passion lies in writing and helping women learn how awesome they really are. Helping them see how much they have to offer the world and how their external beauty is just a reflection of the beauty deep within. Through writing, recommending books and podcasts and offering tips and tricks to simplify your beauty routines, I can help you feel more confident in who you really are…because I KNOW you’re awesome.
